The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has dismissed circulating claims that all secondary schools in Abuja would be closed on Friday, describing them as false and misleading. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the administration clarified that no such decision has been taken.

In response to the confusion sparked by an unauthorised memo, the FCTA Minister, Nyesom Wike, has suspended the Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, as well as the Director of School Services, Mrs. Aishatu Sani Alhassan. Both officials are expected to face internal disciplinary proceedings under civil service rules.

According to Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, the unauthorised circular caused unnecessary panic among parents, students, and school authorities. He urged all stakeholders to disregard the notice and resume normal academic activities as scheduled.

Dr. Hayyo, in his separate response, confirmed that he had not authorised any school closures. He explained that the circular was issued by an official without the proper authority, noting that only the FCT Minister has the power to decide on school operations.

To reassure the public, the FCTA also reiterated its commitment to school safety. The Minister has instructed security agencies to intensify Operation Sweep and other protective measures across schools in the territory, ensuring a safe learning environment for students.

The administration urged citizens to verify information with official sources before sharing, warning that spreading unauthorised notices can create unnecessary fear and confusion.
