Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has dismissed reports alleging that the German government rejected his ambassadorial nomination.
The controversy followed claims by an online platform that his proposed diplomatic posting was declined due to concerns over past statements and conduct. The report suggested that German authorities raised issues regarding what it described as controversial remarks linked to ethnic and religious sentiments, as well as alleged concerns about his public behavior.
Fani-Kayode, however, strongly refuted the claims, describing them as false and politically motivated. He maintained that no such rejection had taken place and accused opposition figures of orchestrating the narrative to damage his reputation.
The former minister insisted that the reports were attempts to undermine his nomination and discredit his standing. According to him, certain political elements unhappy with his appointment were behind the circulation of what he termed “fake news.”
His nomination followed approval by Bola Tinubu, who recently appointed him as an ambassador-designate to a Central European country. Despite the controversy, Fani-Kayode reiterated his commitment to serving Nigeria, stating that he remains focused on fulfilling his duties regardless of criticism.
He further emphasized that opposition voices would not deter him, expressing confidence that his appointment would stand. In a statement shared via his official social media account, he criticized those spreading the report, asserting that their efforts to block his nomination would ultimately fail.
The situation has sparked discussions within political circles, with differing views emerging over the credibility of the initial report and the broader implications for Nigeria’s diplomatic appointments. Meanwhile, no official confirmation has been issued by German authorities regarding the alleged rejection.
