A shocking incident marred the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Saturday, as a Katsina United fan allegedly slit the throat of Barau FC midfielder Nana Abraham shortly after his team’s equaliser in their clash at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
The home side had taken a 1–0 lead in the first half, but Barau FC’s Orji Kalu levelled the score in the 69th minute. Moments later, chaos erupted when a supporter of Katsina United — nicknamed the Changi Boys — reportedly invaded the pitch and attacked Abraham, leaving him with a deep cut on his neck.

According to match updates shared by Barau FC’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the game was temporarily halted in the 70th minute due to the violent incident.
“70′ The match is temporarily halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham. Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC,” the club posted.
The match resumed after a short delay, with Hillary Ekawu coming on to replace the injured Abraham in the 71st minute, and the game eventually ended 1–1.
Eyewitnesses have described the assault as “barbaric,” calling on the NPFL board and security agencies to take swift action against the perpetrators.
As of the time of this report, neither Katsina United nor the league management has issued an official statement, and Abraham’s condition remains uncertain.
