The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in partnership with MTN Nigeria, has launched a free Wi-Fi service for passengers and airport users at two major international airports in the country.
The service is currently available at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2 and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The official inauguration took place on Thursday at MMIA Terminal 2, Lagos.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, was represented at the event by the Director of Airport Operations, Abdullahi Mahmood. The development was disclosed in a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, and issued via the agency’s official X handle.
According to the statement, the Wi-Fi service is completely free and will be extended to the MMIA temporary terminal and other international airports across Nigeria within the next three months.
Speaking at the event, Mahmood described the launch as a significant milestone for FAAN and a new benchmark for digital infrastructure and passenger experience at Nigerian airports. He noted that the collaboration with MTN Nigeria reflects how effective public-private partnerships can modernise critical infrastructure and strengthen the country’s digital economy.
Mahmood added that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Tinubu and the transformation agenda of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
In her remarks, the Chief Enterprise Business Officer of MTN Nigeria, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, who represented the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola, assured passengers that the Wi-Fi service would be reliable, secure, and efficient. She commended FAAN’s management for its collaboration and vision in delivering the project.
Meanwhile, FAAN recently reaffirmed its decision to ban cash transactions for all airport services nationwide, effective February 28, following consultations with aviation union executives seeking clarification on the policy.
