Former Ogun State governors, Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun, were absent from the strategic meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held to endorse President Bola Tinubu for another term in office.
The meeting took place on Wednesday at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, and was attended by past governors and deputy governors, serving and former senators, party leaders from the National Working Committee, former commissioners, and other APC stalwarts across the state.
Gbenga Daniel, currently representing Ogun East Senatorial District in the Senate, served as governor from May 29, 2003, to May 29, 2011, succeeding Olusegun Osoba. Amosun, in turn, was governor from 2011 to 2019 and represents Ogun Central Senatorial District in the Senate.
During the meeting, Governor Dapo Abiodun praised President Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as courageous decisions that rescued Nigeria’s economy from collapse and set it on a path toward sustainable development.
“At a time when the economy had severely nosedived, our president rose with courage, conviction, and clarity to take hard but necessary decisions aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable development. Many of us thought fuel subsidy was the worst burden, but in reality, the foreign exchange subsidy and multiple exchange rate system were the biggest monsters. On May 29, 2023, Mr President removed both, marking the beginning of genuine reforms,” Abiodun said.
The governor urged party members to reaffirm their trust in Tinubu’s leadership and endorsed him for another four-year term to consolidate and continue his government’s policies until 2031. He also highlighted the strong turnout at the strategy meeting as evidence of the APC’s unity and relevance.
Former governor Olusegun Osoba added that no past president had shown as much courage as Tinubu in implementing economic reforms. While acknowledging that grassroots communities have yet to feel the full impact of the reforms, he emphasized that Tinubu deserves support for another term to further elevate the nation.
“No president has been as courageous as President Tinubu in facing the consequences of his economic reforms. He has done well and deserves to be supported for another four-year term to further take the nation to greater heights,” Osoba said.
