The immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2026 Osun State election.
Oyebamiji was adopted as the party’s consensus candidate during the APC governorship primary held on Saturday in Osogbo, the state capital.
His emergence followed a motion moved by two aspirants, Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Senator Babajide Omoworare, urging party delegates to adopt a consensus arrangement. The motion was subjected to a voice vote by the chairman of the APC governorship primary committee and Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, and was unanimously affirmed by party members present.
Declaring the result, Okpebholo said, “By the power conferred on me, I present to you Bola Oyebamiji as the governorship candidate of our party.”
The primary election took place at the premises of Ebunoluwa Group of Schools, Osogbo, amid heavy security presence and attendance by party leaders from across the country.
The committee chairman arrived at the venue alongside the co chairman and Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Other committee members present included the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
A total of 1,660 delegates had earlier been listed to participate in the primary scheduled for December 13.
Party sources said all seven governorship aspirants agreed to step down in support of a consensus candidate following a late night meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
Former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, also confirmed his support for the consensus arrangement, saying he accepted the decision after consultations with the President.
Oyebamiji is expected to intensify consultations ahead of the governorship election.
