The Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, has surrendered himself to the Lagos State Police Command amid allegations of rape and other offences likely to disturb public order.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed the development on Wednesday, noting that the cleric presented himself after initially failing to honour a police invitation.
Okafor had been invited by the State Criminal Investigation Department at Panti on Sunday but did not appear as scheduled on Monday, prompting the police to order his arrest. However, he later turned himself in on Tuesday through his legal representatives.
Speaking during an interview with TVC, Jimoh said the matter had since been transferred to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Sylvester Alabi, for further investigation.
“When he was invited, his lawyer informed us that he would appear on Monday. We waited, but he did not come. I then directed that he be arrested. Subsequently, he showed up yesterday,” the commissioner said.
Jimoh explained that the case was moved to Zone 2 after it was discovered that the same petition had already been opened at the zonal headquarters, which has supervisory authority over the state command.
“The Assistant Inspector General is my immediate supervisor. Since the matter is already being handled at the zonal level, we handed it over to them for continuity and proper investigation,” he added.
Addressing concerns raised by alleged victims through online platforms, the police commissioner said the command now treats credible complaints on social media with seriousness, especially when public peace may be threatened.
“Social media has become a veritable space for people to lodge complaints. If we ignore such allegations and they escalate, it could lead to a breakdown of law and order. That is why we act in the public interest,” Jimoh said.
The allegations against Okafor surfaced in mid December 2025 after multiple accusations were shared online. Nollywood actress Doris Ogala was among those who accused the pastor of engaging in a prolonged sexual relationship with her since 2017. She alleged that he made unfulfilled marriage promises, shared explicit materials, and played a role in the collapse of her previous marriage.
Amid the backlash, Okafor reportedly addressed his congregation on December 28, 2025, where he apologised for what he described as past mistakes and publicly sought forgiveness while kneeling at the altar.
There are also indications that the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria is reviewing the matter and may take disciplinary action. Meanwhile, the pastor has stepped aside from his pastoral duties pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
