Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, is nurturing presidential ambitions for 2031 while simultaneously working to secure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Amaechi made the allegation while dismissing claims that former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, hacked Ribadu’s phone. According to him, El-Rufai does not possess the technical capacity to compromise the NSA’s phone, insisting that call surveillance is more likely carried out by the NSA’s office itself.
Speaking during a phone-in programme on Eagles Radio, Amaechi accused Ribadu of using his position to shape Nigeria’s political environment. He claimed the NSA is engaging in widespread arrests and allegedly planning what he described as “double elections,” with one strategy aimed at ensuring Tinubu’s victory in the 2027 presidential election and another designed to position Ribadu for a 2031 presidential run.
Amaechi further alleged that Ribadu is attempting to weaken the African Democratic Congress by sponsoring rival factions within the party and encouraging prolonged legal disputes. He claimed that several court cases involving the ADC were being driven by individuals allegedly supported by Ribadu, whom he accused of providing inducements to destabilize the party and blunt its political effectiveness.
He warned that any belief that the 2027 elections would not be properly conducted was misplaced, insisting that Nigerians would resist efforts to undermine the democratic process. Amaechi urged Ribadu to concentrate on his national security responsibilities rather than political maneuvering.
The comments, which have since stirred controversy, were later shared on X by ADC chieftain Dele Momodu, intensifying public debate over the alleged politicization of Nigeria’s security institutions.
