Egypt’s population within its borders has reached 108.5 million, reflecting an increase of 500,000 people over just 126 days, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics. The figures were displayed on the country’s official population clock.
The agency reported that Egypt reached a population of 108 million on August 16, 2025. An additional 250,000 people were recorded by October 14, after 59 days, with another 250,000 added over the next 67 days.
Cairo remains Egypt’s most populous governorate with 10.5 million residents, followed closely by Giza at 9.8 million. Other densely populated regions include Sharqia, Dakahlia, Beheira, and Minya, each with millions of residents.
The rapid population growth has intensified concerns over infrastructure, housing, employment, healthcare, and education. Economists warn that sustaining development amid such growth poses a significant challenge for the government.
Authorities have repeatedly called for family planning and population control measures, stressing that unchecked growth could undermine economic gains and strain public services.
Smaller governorates such as South Sinai, New Valley, and the Red Sea region remain sparsely populated, highlighting ongoing regional disparities.
As Egypt’s population continues to expand, policymakers face mounting pressure to balance growth with sustainable development and improved living standards.
