Operatives of the Department of State Services have arrested an Osun based Islamic cleric Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan following a pro-Palestine protest.
Security sources confirmed that the cleric was taken into custody after leading or participating in demonstrations linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The protest reportedly drew the attention of security agencies due to concerns over public order and national security.
While details surrounding the arrest remain limited, sources said the DSS acted to prevent potential escalation of tensions and unrest. Supporters of the cleric have described the arrest as unjust and have called for his immediate release.
Civil society groups have urged authorities to respect the rights of citizens to peaceful protest while also maintaining law and order. Legal analysts say the case raises questions about the balance between national security and freedom of expression.
