The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has recorded one hundred nine deaths and four hundred sixty nine confirmed cases of Lassa fever in 2026 as health authorities intensify response efforts across affected states. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control commonly abbreviated as NCDC is the national public health institute responsible for disease surveillance prevention and control in Nigeria.

Health officials said the cases were reported across multiple states with varying levels of severity depending on local conditions and response capacity. Lassa fever is a viral hemorrhagic illness transmitted primarily through contact with food or household items contaminated by rodents.

Medical experts explained that early symptoms of the disease may include fever weakness and headaches while severe cases can lead to complications affecting major organs.
