General Christopher Musa, recently nominated to serve as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, has stated that he is fully aware of the weight of public expectations and is determined not to fail the country.
The statement followed his reaction to the intense public discourse that greeted the announcement of his nomination.
General Musa explained that he had visited several social media platforms after the news broke and was surprised by the volume of comments from Nigerians.
He said the feedback made him realise that the position carries a national burden that must be handled with absolute commitment.
He added that he cannot afford to disappoint himself, his family, or the entire nation which expects improved security outcomes.
The General emphasised that the security situation in the country demands strong leadership, strategic reforms, and a renewed sense of accountability.
He said that the trust Nigerians have placed in him must be justified through visible actions and measurable improvements in national security.
He reiterated that his service will be guided by discipline, dedication, and transparency.
Since the announcement of his nomination, security analysts have also expressed their expectations regarding reforms in counter terror operations, intelligence coordination, and troop welfare.
Many observers believe that his background as a former Chief of Defence Staff positions him to provide the type of leadership the military requires.
The Presidency is yet to indicate the exact date for his assumption of office.
However, public attention remains focused on the new Defence leadership and what changes may follow in the coming months.
