Gunmen launched fresh attacks on communities in Plateau State on Wednesday night, leaving two people dead and two others injured in separate incidents that have heightened tension across affected areas.

The first attack occurred in Ban community, Heipang, where armed assailants reportedly stormed the area around 11 p.m., firing sporadically at residents. The community, located opposite Plateau State Polytechnic, quickly descended into chaos as gunshots rang out.

According to reports, three individuals were struck by bullets and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. One of the victims, a woman, later died from her injuries, while the remaining two are currently receiving treatment.

The incident triggered widespread panic, particularly among students of the polytechnic, many of whom live off-campus. Eyewitnesses described a night of confusion and fear as residents scrambled for safety. A student, Nanchip Dube, recounted that the persistent sound of gunfire caused alarm within the academic community, forcing many to stay indoors.

In a separate but related attack earlier the same evening, another life was lost in Riyom Local Government Area. A 27-year-old man, identified as Amos Monday, was reportedly ambushed and killed by gunmen while in the company of other youths. The attack took place around 8:15 p.m. along the route between Baten village in Wereng Ward and Du’a village in Kwi Ward.

The incidents were confirmed by Berom Youth Moulders through its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong. He urged residents in Kwi, Wereng, and surrounding communities, including Jos South, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom, to remain vigilant amid rising insecurity.

Attempts to obtain an official response from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls to the spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, were not answered.

The attacks underscore ongoing security challenges in Plateau State, with residents increasingly concerned about their safety and the recurrence of violent incidents in the region
