Dangote Petroleum Refinery has introduced a nationwide hotline to enable Nigerians report filling stations selling petrol above the approved price of N739 per litre at MRS stations nationwide. The initiative is part of measures aimed at enforcing pricing discipline and protecting consumers.

The refinery said the hotline would serve as a direct channel for members of the public to report price violations in real time. Reports received through the platform are expected to trigger immediate investigation and enforcement actions.

The introduction of the hotline comes amid widespread complaints by motorists over inconsistent petrol pricing across the country. Despite official pricing guidelines some filling stations have continued to sell fuel above approved rates citing logistics costs and supply challenges.

Dangote Refinery emphasised that stations sourcing fuel through approved channels have no justification for selling above the stipulated price. The company stressed that arbitrary price increases undermine market stability and place unnecessary burden on Nigerians.

Consumer advocacy groups have welcomed the move describing it as a step toward transparency and accountability in the downstream petroleum sector. They argue that citizen participation is critical to addressing long standing issues of price manipulation.

The refinery also called on regulatory agencies to collaborate in enforcing compliance and sanctioning erring stations. Industry observers believe the success of the initiative will depend largely on swift response and visible penalties.

The Dangote Refinery which recently commenced operations is expected to play a key role in stabilising fuel supply and pricing in Nigeria. Its entry into the market has been widely viewed as a game changer for the energy sector.

As fuel pricing remains a sensitive issue the hotline initiative is expected to attract strong public interest and shape pricing behaviour nationwide.
