The Nigeria Customs Service has announced plans to auction 14,375 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) seized from smugglers attempting to transport the fuel to Cameroon.

The fuel was intercepted by the Customs Special Anti-Smuggling Taskforce, Operation Whirlwind, in the Calabar axis of Zone C. National Coordinator of the taskforce, DCC Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed that the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seized product stands at N14,375,000.

“Acting on credible intelligence, our operatives dismantled a coordinated network involved in the illegal exportation of PMS to neighbouring Cameroon,” Aliyu said. He explained that the operation led to the seizure of 235 jerry-cans of 25 litres each and 40 drums of 200 litres each, totaling 14,375 litres of petrol.

The seized products were intercepted at multiple flashpoints, including Ikang, Bakassi, Ikom, and Ikot-Idareka, and were being diverted for illegal export in clear violation of Nigerian petroleum regulations.

Aliyu emphasized that the NCS remains committed to its constitutional mandate to protect the economy, secure national assets, and combat smuggling and economic sabotage.

Zone C Area Comptroller, Momodu Dauda, added that the seizure highlights the Customs Service’s dedication to enforcing laws, protecting legitimate trade, and suppressing smuggling activities that undermine the national economy.
