The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and deepening bilateral trade relations, as he met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, in Abuja on Wednesday.
The meeting between Dunhai and Tuggar focused on strengthening bilateral relations and ongoing cooperation between Nigeria and China, according to a statement issued by the Chinese Embassy in Abuja.
Speaking during the engagement, Dunhai said the China Nigeria comprehensive strategic partnership has entered a fast track through the joint efforts of both countries.
He noted that China remains committed to international cooperation in line with its 15th Five Year Plan and stressed that both countries have consistently supported each other on issues affecting their core national interests.
“China also supports Nigeria’s efforts to combat terrorism. China is ready to work with Nigeria to implement zero tariff treatment for Nigerian exports at an early date, and to make good preparations for the activities celebrating the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 2026 China Africa Year of Cultural Exchanges,” the envoy said.
According to him, these initiatives will consolidate strategic mutual trust between both nations and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation.
In his response, Tuggar described China as Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner and expressed appreciation for China’s sustained support for Nigeria’s economic and social development.
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the one China principle and disclosed the country’s interest in expanding cooperation in manufacturing, trade and investment to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Tuggar also expressed optimism that the evolving partnership between both nations would continue to yield tangible benefits for the Nigerian economy and citizens.
