The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, led heads of security agencies on Thursday, April 2, 2026, in an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Jos, Plateau State.
According to a statement by Colonel Appolonia Anele, acting Director of Army Public Relations, the visit is part of ongoing efforts to restore calm and entrench lasting peace across the state. Upon arrival, Lieutenant General Shaibu was received by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, signaling strong civil-military cooperation and a shared commitment to addressing emerging security challenges.
During the visit, the COAS received a detailed operational briefing from Major General Folusho Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE. The briefing highlighted ongoing military operations, proactive measures implemented in collaboration with other security agencies, and strategies to contain threats, protect lives and property, and stabilize affected communities.
As part of his engagement, Lieutenant General Shaibu interacted with community leaders and residents, assuring them of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding law-abiding citizens. He encouraged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies by complying with curfews and cooperating fully with ongoing operations and investigations, while continuing their lawful activities.
The visit was hailed by local officials. Hon. Dachung Bagos, chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, commended the COAS for the timely intervention, noting that the presence of the nation’s top military leadership would boost public confidence and reinforce trust in ongoing security efforts.
