The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in what it describes as an alleged attempt by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to destabilize the party’s structure in the state.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the party’s state chairman, Chief Leader Sampson, alleged that the ADC in Ikwerre Local Government Area—and by extension across all 23 local government areas of Rivers State—is facing systematic interference. According to him, the party uncovered what appears to be a calculated effort to create parallel and unconstitutional leadership structures within its fold.

Sampson alleged that the move is being carried out by Wike through the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Council, Mr. Charles Wobodo, under the supervision of Mr. Samuel Nwanosike. He claimed that the alleged actions include attempts to impose non-existent LGA and ward executives, as well as directives encouraging elected ward councillors to unlawfully assume leadership roles within the ADC.

The party described the development as a direct assault on democratic principles, political plurality, and citizens’ constitutional rights to freedom of association and political participation. It warned that no individual or group should suppress opposition voices or obstruct alternative political platforms.

The ADC further urged security agencies to investigate the allegations and prevent any actions capable of triggering political tension in the state. While reaffirming its commitment to peaceful and lawful political engagement, the party vowed to defend its legally recognized structures against unlawful interference.

It also appealed to members and supporters to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding as it continues to pursue credible leadership and people-centered governance in Rivers State.
