Morocco dominated the 2025 CAF Awards, with Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak emerging as the headline winners, while Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie claimed an impressive trio of awards.
However, there was disappointment for Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen, who finished third in the race for African Footballer of the Year.
PSG and Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi was crowned African Footballer of the Year 2025, beating Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen to the award. The ceremony was held on Wednesday night at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Rabat, Morocco.
Hakimi’s win capped off a remarkable year in which he played a major role in PSG finally securing their first-ever Champions League title, completing a historic quadruple in the 2024/25 season. Only their loss to Chelsea in the inaugural Summer Club World Cup prevented an unprecedented quintuple.
At international level, the 27-year-old was also key to Morocco’s success as they became the first African nation to book a place at the 2026 World Cup in North America.
The award marks Hakimi’s first time winning the continent’s top honour, after previously finishing runner-up behind Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen in consecutive editions.
Osimhen, who won the award in 2023, had to settle for third place in 2025 despite a strong campaign with Galatasaray and leading Nigeria to the CAF play-off final. The Super Eagles’ World Cup hopes ended in heartbreak after a dramatic penalty shootout loss to DR Congo in Rabat on Sunday.
Mohamed Salah finished second following a historic season in which he matched Thierry Henry with a fourth Premier League Golden Boot. Salah also claimed the Playmaker Award for most assists and swept several major individual prizes—PFA Players’ Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year, and Premier League Player of the Season—as Liverpool cruised to the title in Arne Slot’s debut campaign.
