Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has completed a long awaited trucks transit park project designed to decongest highways create jobs and significantly boost internally generated revenue for the state. The facility which is located along a major transport corridor is expected to serve as a logistics hub for heavy duty vehicles operating across northern Nigeria.
The transit park provides structured parking facilities rest areas security services and basic amenities for truck drivers who previously parked indiscriminately along highways causing traffic congestion and safety hazards. State officials said the project was conceived as both an infrastructure and economic intervention.
According to the state government the facility will create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs ranging from facility management and security to food services and vehicle maintenance. Local traders and small businesses are also expected to benefit from increased commercial activity around the park.
Governor Buni said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to practical development initiatives that address safety economic growth and revenue generation simultaneously. He noted that improving transport logistics is critical to trade and food distribution especially in a region that serves as a major transit route.
Revenue from the park will come through regulated user fees leases and services provided to transport operators. Officials estimate that the project could contribute significantly to the state’s internally generated revenue while reducing dependence on federal allocations.
Transport unions and logistics operators have welcomed the development describing it as a long overdue intervention that improves working conditions and enhances road safety. Analysts say the project could serve as a model for other states struggling with highway congestion and unregulated truck parking.
