Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed a pastor and four other civilians during an attack on a community in Borno State, reigniting concerns over security in the North-East.
The attack reportedly occurred in a remote village where the assailants stormed the area in the early hours, opening fire and setting homes ablaze. Residents said the victims were targeted during the raid before the attackers fled.
Local sources confirmed that the pastor was a respected community leader who had remained in the area despite ongoing security threats. The other victims included women and youths.
Security forces have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, while military authorities say operations have been intensified to prevent further attacks. Troops have also been deployed to nearby communities.
Community leaders have called on the government to strengthen security presence and provide humanitarian support to displaced residents. They warned that continued attacks could worsen displacement and food insecurity.
Human rights groups condemned the killings and urged authorities to ensure justice for the victims while improving civilian protection.
