Residents of Jeri community in Kusada Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State have been thrown into distress after bandits reportedly carried out a prolonged house-to-house raid, making away with valuables estimated to be worth millions of naira.
The attack was disclosed by security analyst Bakatsine in a post shared on X on Friday. According to the analyst, the assailants operated in the community for nearly two hours, moving from one household to another with little or no interruption, taking advantage of the absence of immediate security presence.
“Bandits carried out a house-to-house raid in Jeri community, Kusada LGA of Katsina State, operating for nearly two hours,” Bakatsine stated. During the attack, the assailants reportedly looted mobile phones, cash, and livestock, including cattle, belonging to residents. “Phones, cash and cattle worth millions were taken,” he added.
Despite the scale of the raid, no deaths or abductions were reported. Nonetheless, the incident has heightened fears over security in the area, particularly against the backdrop of ongoing efforts by authorities to restore peace in parts of Katsina State.
Bakatsine further noted that the raid comes just weeks after a peace agreement was reportedly reached with bandits in Kankia LGA. “This incident raises fresh concerns about the effectiveness of the peace deal struck with bandits in Kankia LGA just weeks ago,” he observed, highlighting the challenges security agencies continue to face in curbing banditry in the region.
Residents of Jeri have expressed shock and apprehension, with many questioning the ability of local security forces to prevent such brazen attacks. The prolonged nature of the raid, coupled with the theft of substantial property, underscores the persistent insecurity in several communities within Katsina State.
The Katsina State government has not yet released an official statement on the incident, but security experts are calling for increased patrols, community vigilance, and stronger intelligence operations to prevent further attacks.
The raid in Jeri community serves as a reminder of the continuing threat posed by bandits in northern Nigeria and the urgent need for comprehensive security measures to protect residents and restore public confidence in law enforcement efforts.
