The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu land has criticised popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, also known as KWAM1, over a petition he submitted to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, alleging his exclusion from the ongoing process to select the next Awujale of Ijebu land.
In the petition dated January 8, 2026, Ayinde, through his lawyer, Wahab Shittu (SAN), claimed that certain directives issued by the leadership of the ruling house were inconsistent with the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law. He alleged that the guidelines were designed to prevent him from participating in the nomination process.
Reacting to the claims, the Vice Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, dismissed the petition as baseless and misleading. He said the selection process was being conducted transparently and in line with tradition, adding that it would be impractical for all members of the large ruling house to participate directly in nominations.
Yusuf confirmed that a nomination meeting had been scheduled as part of the process to fill the vacant stool, which has attracted more than 60 aspirants. He also maintained that Ayinde is not a recognised member of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House and is therefore not qualified to contest.
Ayinde had earlier approached the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu Ode, seeking to halt the selection process, but the court declined the application and the suit was later withdrawn. The ruling house had temporarily suspended the process following government intervention before restarting it.
The Awujale stool became vacant in July 2025 following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for 65 years. Efforts to obtain the Ogun State Government’s reaction were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
