Aviation expert Okeyima has described the Gateway International Airport in Ogun State as a key infrastructure project capable of transforming cargo transportation within Nigeria and across West Africa. Gateway International Airport is a major aviation project designed to support both passenger and cargo operations.

Speaking during an industry forum, Okeyima said the facility has the potential to serve as a logistics hub connecting agricultural producers and manufacturing industries with international markets.

He noted that efficient cargo infrastructure can significantly reduce transportation costs and improve export capacity. Nigeria’s agricultural and industrial sectors often depend on reliable logistics networks to move goods quickly.

According to Okeyima, the airport’s strategic location near industrial clusters and major highways gives it a strong advantage for cargo operations.

Aviation analysts say Nigeria’s expanding trade activities require modern airport infrastructure capable of handling large scale freight movement. Cargo terminals equipped with cold storage facilities can help preserve agricultural products during export.

Experts also believe the development of cargo hubs could enhance regional trade within West Africa by facilitating faster movement of goods between countries.

Okeyima emphasized that sustained investment in aviation infrastructure is essential for strengthening Nigeria’s position as a regional trade center.
