The Academic Staff Union of Universities has resumed an indefinite strike at Taraba State University following what the union described as the failure of the Taraba State Government to implement agreements reached earlier with its members.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Jalingo, the union’s chairman, Joshua Garba Mbave, said the decision followed the government’s inability to take concrete and verifiable steps toward fulfilling its commitments made on January 17, 2025.

According to the union, the strike had previously been suspended in good faith to give the government time to address the agreed issues. However, it said no meaningful progress was recorded, prompting the resumption of the industrial action.

The union explained that its congress, held on February 18, 2026, reviewed the situation and concluded that the continued neglect of longstanding issues left it with no alternative but to resume the total and comprehensive strike.

Among the grievances listed were the absence of a functional pension scheme for the university, unpaid salary arrears owed to staff, non payment of accumulated Earned Academic Allowances, and the failure to implement the newly negotiated 2025 ASUU Federal Government agreement.

Mbave noted that the unresolved issues have significantly affected staff welfare, morale, and the overall functioning of the university system. He stressed that the decision to resume the strike was a last resort after prolonged dialogue with the state government failed to produce results.
