Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested 27 suspected illegal miners in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and neutralised three terrorists during coordinated military operations carried out across the country within the last 24 hours.

A reliable military source disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja, explaining that the operations were part of sustained efforts by the Nigerian Army to curb criminal activities and enhance national security.

According to the source, troops of the 7 Guards Battalion operating under Operation MESA raided an illegal mining site at Iddah in the Bwari Area Council of the FCT. During the operation, 27 suspects were apprehended, while camps used by the illegal miners were dismantled.

Items recovered from the site included one dane gun, four motorcycles, and assorted mining equipment. The troops also mounted strategic roadblocks along the Bwari–Ushafa–Dutse axis to prevent the movement of criminal elements and ensure effective area domination.

The source further disclosed that three terrorists were neutralised in separate coordinated offensive and response operations across multiple theatres, as troops sustained pressure on criminal networks nationwide.

In the North-East, troops of the Joint Task Force under Operation Hadin Kai continued offensive actions as part of Operation Desert Sanity V across Sectors 1 to 4. The troops carried out aggressive patrols and routine operations within their areas of responsibility, with no major security breaches recorded.

Similarly, troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA sustained offensive and routine operations across Sectors 1 to 3, consolidating previous gains and denying criminals freedom of movement.
