The Nigerian Army has completed its operation in Plateau State by successfully rescuing a Reverend who was abducted by armed kidnappers during a violent confrontation in a remote area of the state.
The dramatic rescue followed a series of coordinated security actions carried out by troops who responded immediately after receiving distress signals from community members.
According to military officials, the Reverend was kidnapped by heavily armed men who had been terrorising the surrounding villages for several weeks.
The kidnappers attempted to move the cleric deep into the forest, but their movement was intercepted after troops deployed surveillance units and received intelligence from local residents.
Soldiers then launched a pursuit operation which quickly escalated into a sustained gun battle.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing heavy gunfire as troops engaged the kidnappers in an effort to secure the Reverend’s release.
The kidnappers opened fire on the advancing soldiers but were overpowered by the superior firepower and tactical coordination displayed by the Army.
Some members of the gang fled during the exchange, abandoning the victim in the process.
Military sources confirmed that the Reverend was recovered alive and in stable condition, although visibly traumatised by the ordeal.
He was immediately transported to a nearby medical facility for assessment and treatment.
Doctors have since reported that he is responding well and is now with his family.
The Army stated that the rescue is part of a broader security operation aimed at dismantling criminal gangs operating across Plateau State.
Troops are continuing to comb nearby forests in search of the remaining suspects.
Officials said that several items were recovered from the kidnappers, including weapons, communication devices, and personal belongings of previous victims.
Residents have reacted with relief and gratitude, describing the operation as a significant victory in the fight against kidnapping.
Community leaders expressed appreciation to the military for acting swiftly and decisively to prevent what could have been a prolonged captivity.
Several residents called for permanent deployment of security personnel to vulnerable rural communities.
The Plateau State Government also commended the Army for what it described as a courageous and well executed rescue mission.
Officials reiterated the commitment of the state to strengthen cooperation with federal security agencies in order to reduce criminal activities and restore peace across the region.
They urged citizens to remain vigilant and to report suspicious movements to the authorities.
Security analysts said the incident highlights both the persistence of criminal networks in the North Central region and the continuing challenges faced by residents who suffer frequent attacks.
They noted that timely military intervention remains essential in preventing kidnappings from escalating into prolonged hostage crises.
They also called for improved intelligence gathering mechanisms to support early detection of threats.
The Nigerian Army has assured the public that it will intensify operations in Plateau and other states affected by insecurity.
It confirmed that further raids and intelligence driven missions are underway to track down the fleeing kidnappers and disrupt their operational bases.
Commanders emphasised that protecting civilians remains their highest priority.
Meanwhile, religious leaders across the state have praised the Army for securing the Reverend’s safe return.
They urged the government to continue to strengthen security around churches, schools, and rural communities that remain vulnerable to armed groups.
They also encouraged residents to cooperate with security operatives to ensure lasting peace.
The rescue operation has been described as one of the most efficient responses by the Army in recent months.
It has renewed confidence among local residents who have grown increasingly anxious over the surge in kidnapping incidents.
Many hope that the development will signal a turning point in the ongoing effort to stabilise the region.
