The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Kano State House of Assembly by-elections conducted on Saturday to fill the vacant seats in Ungogo and Kano Municipal constituencies.
The vacancies arose following the sudden deaths of the lawmakers representing the two constituencies, Aminu Sa’ad of Ungogo Constituency and Sarki Aliyu Daneji of Kano Municipal Constituency who reportedly passed away on the same day, creating a rare double vacancy in the state legislature.
In the by-elections, the sons of the late lawmakers emerged victorious in decisive landslide wins, retaining the seats for the ruling APC. In Ungogo Constituency, the APC candidate, Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad, polled a total of 8,975 votes to defeat his closest rival, Shua’ibu Hashimu of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), who secured 54 votes.
Announcing the result, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for the constituency, Prof. Ali Tijjani Abdullahi, declared Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad the duly elected member, stating that he had satisfied all legal requirements to be returned elected.
Similarly, in Kano Municipal Constituency, the APC candidate, Aliyu Nabil Daneji, also recorded a resounding victory. He garnered 7,484 votes to defeat Shehu Ishaq Abdullahi of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), who polled 105 votes.
The result was announced by INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Tajo Siraj, who affirmed that Daneji met all constitutional requirements to be declared the winner of the contest.
The by-elections were conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore representation in the Kano State House of Assembly following the unexpected demise of the former legislators. The APC victories further consolidate the party’s dominance in the state legislature.
