The Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, has failed to appear before the Lagos State Police Command following an invitation over allegations of multiple rape and other offences said to threaten public peace.
The cleric was directed to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, on Monday morning to appear before the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the department.
Police sources said the invitation was issued after several petitions were received alleging sexual misconduct and related offences against the pastor.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, had ordered a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.
However, a senior officer at the SCID, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Okafor did not show up as directed.
“Following the commissioner’s instruction, the deputy commissioner immediately ordered that he be debriefed, but he never came. Officers waited throughout the day, and it became clear he was not coming,” the source said.
Another police official familiar with the matter disclosed that the pastor allegedly sent representatives to appeal for more time.
“Some people contacted the command on his behalf, requesting an extension. They assured us that he would still present himself,” the source said.
The police had earlier confirmed that security had been provided for the alleged victims and urged them to report to the SCID, Panti, as investigations are ongoing.
