The Ekiti State Government has disbursed ₦1 billion in profit cheques to young farmers who participated in its agribusiness empowerment programme.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji, while presenting the cheques to beneficiaries, said the payments represented returns on investments made under the state-supported agricultural scheme, rather than handouts. He explained that the initiative was designed to demonstrate that agriculture can be a profitable and sustainable business for young people.

The programme covers crop production, livestock farming and agro-processing, with participants receiving technical support, inputs and access to markets.

State officials said the initiative is part of broader efforts to attract youths into agriculture, reduce unemployment and strengthen food security in Ekiti.

Some beneficiaries confirmed receiving payments based on their output levels and market performance, describing the programme as a major boost to their businesses.

The state government also announced plans to expand the scheme in the coming year, allowing more young people to benefit from the agribusiness initiative.
