Adekunle Gold is set to deliver one of the most ambitious performances of his career after announcing a landmark homecoming concert backed by a full orchestra, a rare feat in Nigerian pop music.
The Afrobeats star revealed on Sunday, December 14, that the concert will take place at the National Theatre, Lagos, on December 26. The show will feature a 55-piece MUSON Orchestra alongside his live band, The 79th Element, promising fans a sweeping musical journey through his six-album discography.
“Experience FUJI and all six albums that shaped my journey,” Adekunle Gold wrote on X, teasing what he described as an immersive live experience unlike any other.
The concert represents a full-circle moment for the Lagos-born musician, whose sound has long drawn from indigenous influences. Bringing a large-scale orchestral performance to one of Nigeria’s most historic cultural venues underscores both his artistic evolution and his deep connection to home.
Following the release of FUJI, Adekunle Gold described the album as his most honest body of work to date. The project explores deeply personal themes, from the grief of losing his father to the joy of welcoming his daughter, reflecting a decade-long journey of growth and self-discovery.
True to form, the singer has continued to resist being boxed into a single sound, a philosophy mirrored by the Fuji music tradition itself, which has evolved while remaining rooted in culture. For Adekunle Gold, FUJI represents the culmination of that evolution.
“It’s the story of a man who has found himself, who has realised who he is and who he has always been,” he said in a recent interview with Nandoleaks. “FUJI is the totality of every project I’ve done.”
Explaining the album’s title, he added: “It’s the sound I’m already making. It’s the soundtrack of my childhood, the soundtrack of my life, the soundtrack of Lagos.”
The upcoming National Theatre performance is expected to bring that journey vividly to life. Fans can anticipate a dramatic retelling of his career, with orchestral reinterpretations of fan favourites such as Orente and Coco Money.
With the MUSON Orchestra providing classical depth and The 79th Element delivering rhythmic drive, the concert promises a bold fusion of Afrobeats, Fuji and symphonic music, a statement production that reinforces Adekunle Gold’s status as a global artist firmly rooted in Nigerian culture.
