The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the killing of approximately 170 people in Kwara State, describing the attack as a glaring failure of security under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the massacre in Kaiama Local Government Area highlights the ineffectiveness of government measures to tackle insecurity. The ADC questioned the status of the state of emergency on security declared by the president in November 2025, as well as promises to recruit thousands of new police officers.
“The African Democratic Congress ADC condemns in the strongest possible terms the recent gruesome killing of about 170 innocent Nigerians in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State,” the statement read. “This horrific massacre is one of the worst atrocities recorded in recent times and stands as a painful reminder of the complete failure to protect lives.”
The party expressed concerns that the heightened security activities witnessed last year may have been more about optics than genuine protection, citing comments from the President of the United States as a reflection of international concern. The ADC argued that the recurring pattern of attacks across Nigeria indicates that violence is not being eliminated but merely shifted from one area to another.
The party also highlighted broader security deficiencies, including weaknesses in intelligence gathering, border control, inter-agency coordination, and emergency response. It pointed to recent killings in Kwara and mass abductions in Kaduna as evidence of systemic lapses.
The ADC called on the Federal Government to provide transparency about the current state of security, clarify the implementation of the promised police recruitment, and outline decisive measures to prevent armed groups from operating across states.
“A government that cannot protect the lives of its citizens has failed in its most fundamental responsibility,” the statement said. “Nigerians deserve decisive action, not mere condolences after each tragedy.”
The party’s condemnation underscores growing public frustration over recurring attacks and raises urgent questions about the effectiveness of the current administration’s security policies
