The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced a scheduled power outage that will affect several parts of the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the forthcoming area council election.

In a statement issued on Friday, AEDC informed residents in Gwarinpa, Dawaki, News Engineering, France Engineering, Charley Boy, and other surrounding communities that electricity supply will be temporarily interrupted on Saturday, 21 February 2026. The outage is scheduled to last from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

According to the distribution company, the planned interruption is due to a critical maintenance exercise to be carried out by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). The maintenance work will involve the 60MVA Transformer TR1 located at the Katampe Transmission Substation.

AEDC explained that the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by TCN to strengthen the national grid, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure improved reliability of power supply to customers within the affected areas. The company noted that while the maintenance may cause temporary inconvenience, it is necessary to achieve long-term stability and better service delivery.

The electricity distributor reassured customers that power supply will be restored immediately after the completion of the maintenance work, barring any unforeseen technical challenges. AEDC also emphasized its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and improved electricity services to residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

The company apologized to customers for the inconvenience the planned outage may cause and appealed for understanding and patience during the maintenance period.

Residents seeking further information, updates, or clarification have been advised to contact AEDC through its customer care channels. Customers can call 08039070070 or reach the company via WhatsApp on 08152141414 and 08152151515 for assistance.

AEDC encouraged customers to plan accordingly during the outage period and assured them of continuous communication throughout the maintenance exercise.
