Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved the removal of the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic following widespread student protests over welfare, academic conditions, and administrative issues.
The decision came after students staged demonstrations within the institution, alleging poor facilities, rising fees, and ineffective leadership. The protests disrupted academic activities and drew public attention to the grievances.
A statement from the state government said the governor acted in the interest of restoring stability and addressing students’ concerns. An interim management team has been appointed to oversee the institution pending further reforms.
Government officials noted that investigations revealed lapses in communication and management, which contributed to tensions between students and the school administration.
Student leaders welcomed the governor’s intervention, describing it as a positive response to their demands. They urged the government to ensure that promised reforms are implemented without delay.
The Kwara State Government reaffirmed its commitment to improving tertiary education and maintaining peace across state-owned institutions. The administration said dialogue, accountability, and transparency would guide future decisions in the education sector.
