Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi could face disciplinary action from the English FA following his goal celebration during Nottingham Forest’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
Awoniyi came off the bench to score in Nottingham Forest’s 3–0 win over Tottenham, sealing an important result for his side.
After finding the net, the Nigerian forward celebrated by removing his shirt and revealing an undershirt with the message “God is the greatest.” He then knelt in a moment of personal reflection and gratitude.
However, this act may attract further punishment despite already earning a yellow card during the match. Football regulations in England prohibit players from displaying messages or slogans on undershirts during games, regardless of whether they are religious, political, or personal.
Because of this rule, Awoniyi could face additional sanctions from the Football Association, although the nature of his message may lead to a lighter penalty such as a fine or formal warning.
The goal itself marked an important moment for the striker, who has endured a challenging season due to injuries and inconsistent form. His late strike also helped confirm a dominant performance by Forest in a crucial Premier League fixture.
