An Oyo State High Court has restrained Chief Oluwakemi Alao-Akala from selling, disposing of, or entering any transaction involving properties belonging to the late Governor Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, pending the determination of a substantive suit before the court.
The injunction follows a motion filed by Oluwatoyin Alao Aderinto seeking judicial oversight of the administration of the deceased’s estate (Suit No. 1/443/2024). Other defendants in the suit include Olamide Alabi, both listed as executors and administrators of the estate.
In its ruling, the court prohibited the defendants, their agents, and anyone acting on their behalf from selling or entering joint ventures involving any estate properties. The order was issued under the High Court of Oyo State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2022, and the court’s inherent jurisdiction. An accelerated hearing was also ordered to ensure a swift resolution.
The claimant, who is the late governor’s first daughter, informed the court that she holds legal and equitable interests in the estate. She alleged that some properties had already been sold without her consent and that further disposals or joint venture arrangements were being planned, potentially jeopardizing her entitlements.
The injunction now ensures that no transactions affecting the estate will occur until the court resolves the ownership and administration issues. Additionally, an application for DNA tests involving siblings connected to the dispute has been submitted, highlighting the ongoing complexities in determining rightful inheritance.
