Governor Chukwuma Soludo has ordered the immediate handover of duties by all political appointees in Anambra State, following his swearing-in for a second term. The directive, aimed at facilitating a smooth transition ahead of the constitution of a new cabinet, was communicated through an official circular issued on March 18, 2026, by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

The circular instructs affected political appointees to transfer responsibilities to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), or, where Permanent Secretaries are unavailable, to the most senior civil servant. The handover is expected to be completed by the close of work on the same day.

“I am directed to inform all political appointees to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servant in the various MDAs on or before the close of work today… until a new cabinet is constituted,” the statement read.

In addition, the circular directed that all first-term cabinet members meet with Governor Soludo on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the ANSEC Chambers for further consultations. The document was signed by Dr. Nwabufor Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary, Office of the SSG.

This development formally dissolves the existing cabinet and marks the start of a new administrative cycle under Governor Soludo. It signals the governor’s intention to reconstitute his executive team for the new term, laying the groundwork for the strategic direction and priorities of his government in the coming years. The swift handover directive also underscores the emphasis on continuity in governance and the seamless management of MDAs during the transitional period.

The political reshuffle comes as expectations rise for announcements on new appointments, with stakeholders anticipating that the reconstituted cabinet will reflect both experience and fresh perspectives to drive the state’s developmental agenda.
