Troops of the Nigerian Army have apprehended three individuals suspected of supplying logistics to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State.
The arrests were confirmed on Tuesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited credible sources on the operation in a post shared on X. According to the report, the operation was conducted under Operation Savannah Shield at approximately 7:35 a.m. on March 15 at a Forward Operating Base in Kaiama.
Initial reports indicate that the first suspect was apprehended while allegedly preparing to deliver three motorcycles to the terrorist group. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of two additional individuals, who were reportedly in the area to receive the motorcycles. Security sources suggested that the motorcycles were intended to support ISWAP operatives in Nuku village.
All three suspects are now in military custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of their activities and potential connections to other members of the terrorist network. The army has not yet disclosed additional details regarding their identities or further operational findings, citing ongoing security procedures.
The arrests form part of a broader effort by the Nigerian military to disrupt the supply chains and logistical support of insurgent groups operating in the North-Central region. By intercepting these suspects, the military aims to curb the movement of critical resources that facilitate attacks and operational planning by ISWAP and related organizations.
This development comes amid heightened security efforts across Kwara State, where the army has intensified patrols and established checkpoints to monitor and prevent the flow of arms and supplies to terrorist networks. Local authorities have commended the military for their vigilance and proactive measures in maintaining security within the area.
Residents of Kaiama have expressed relief over the arrests, noting that such operations help strengthen the region’s safety and prevent potential attacks. The military has assured the public that it will continue to conduct intelligence-led operations to identify and apprehend individuals involved in supporting insurgent activities.
As investigations progress, officials are expected to provide updates on the case and any further security measures. The apprehension of these suspected logistics suppliers underscores the ongoing commitment of Nigerian security forces to dismantle networks that fuel terrorism in the country.
