Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to take legal action against pastors who publicly claim to perform miracles without verifiable evidence.

In a widely shared live video, Kuti argued that individuals who profess miraculous powers should be held legally accountable unless they can prove such claims under rigorous medical conditions. He said that church leaders making miraculous claims should be tested at a reputable medical facility such as Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) to confirm any alleged healings.

Kuti stated that a law should be enacted to prohibit people from performing or claiming miracles that cannot be medically verified. He added that anyone unable to demonstrate genuine supernatural acts should face punishment.

He emphasised that demonstrations of healing should not be based on anecdotal stories or viral clips, but on evidence verified by medical experts. Kuti argued that, in cases such as restoring sight, the miracle should be repeatable in a clinical environment before being accepted as genuine.

The musician went further, saying that those who fail to substantiate their miracle claims should be held responsible, suggesting strict punishments as a deterrent against false faith‑based assertions.

Kuti’s remarks have reignited discussions in Nigeria about the proliferation of purported miracle performances by some religious leaders and the need for accountability. Critics have long raised concerns over sensational miracle claims made by pastors and prophets, which they say exploit followers’ faith and desperation.
