FAAN Nabs Four Unauthorised Persons Near Akure Airport
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has apprehended four unauthorised persons found near the perimeter of Akure Airport.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire.
According to him, the arrest followed a distress alert after suspicious individuals were sighted behind the airport perimeter close to the Eleyewo community.
Agbebire said the alert prompted a joint search operation involving FAAN’s Aviation Security personnel and other security agencies, including the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Army, and Nigeria Police Force.
He added that local security outfits also participated in the operation to track down the suspects.
During the search, some of the individuals reportedly attempted to flee the area when they noticed the presence of security personnel.
“Four suspects were eventually apprehended and handed over to the Police Area Command for further interrogation,” Agbebire said.
He commended the collaboration among aviation security personnel, the military, police and local security groups for ensuring the success of the operation.
The FAAN official noted that the swift response of the security agencies, including the regional security outfit Amotekun Corps and community vigilantes, contributed significantly to the arrest.
Agbebire said the incident highlights the need to strengthen perimeter security at airports across the country.
He explained that the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has accelerated efforts to improve security infrastructure at airports nationwide.
According to him, modern perimeter fencing and enhanced surveillance systems are being introduced in phases at airports managed by FAAN.
“Work has already begun to ensure that FAAN-managed airports are better protected against unlawful access and other potential security threats,” he said.
FAAN also reassured travellers and host communities of its continued commitment to maintaining safety and security at airport facilities across Nigeria.
The arrest reportedly followed an alert raised by personnel at the airport control tower who noticed unusual movement on the runway area and immediately notified security operatives.
The swift response by the joint security team subsequently led to the apprehension of the four suspects near the airport facility.
