Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has mourned the death of Mr. Ifeanyi Izeze, a pioneering member of his media team.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Sunday by Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe. The statement described Izeze as a dedicated professional who played a significant role in shaping the former vice president’s media engagements over the years.
According to the statement, Ifeanyi Izeze joined Atiku’s media team in 2006 after leaving the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) in Ikot-Abasi, where he served as an office manager.
During his time with Atiku, Izeze brought extensive experience from both journalism and Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. He was said to have contributed significantly to the development of media strategies and campaign policies, particularly those focused on the Niger Delta region.
Izeze was academically trained as a geologist at the University of Port Harcourt, where he studied up to the postgraduate level. Despite his academic background in geology, he later transitioned into journalism and built a strong reputation reporting on Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
Throughout his journalism career, he wrote for several publications, including Sunray, Anchor, and NewAge newspapers. His coverage of the energy sector earned him recognition as a knowledgeable and insightful reporter before he moved into the corporate sector and later political communications.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Izeze was widely known for his lively sense of humour and strong Christian faith. He was an ordained preacher in Christ Embassy and was also actively involved in the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.
He is survived by his children and grandchildren, as well as his elder brother, Emeka Izeze, who is known for his work with The Guardian.
The family has yet to announce details of his burial.
The Atiku Media Office extended its condolences to Izeze’s family, friends and colleagues, praying for God’s comfort for those he left behind and for the peaceful repose of his soul.
