The Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Dr. Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, has said Governor Uba Sani is set to surpass his previous infrastructure record with the ongoing 36-kilometre Bagoma–Gagumi road project in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
Dr. Baba Ahmed made the remark during an inspection visit to the project site at the weekend, describing the governor’s rural infrastructure drive as revolutionary.
He recalled that the governor had earlier commissioned the Gadan Gayan–Gwaraji–Kujama road in February, which he said was the longest road constructed in the state in the last two decades. The 35-kilometre road stretches across Igabi, Kajuru and Chikun local government areas and includes a 130-metre bridge over River Kaduna, providing access to several rural communities.
According to him, the Bagoma–Gagumi road project will set a new milestone once completed, as it is expected to benefit 66 farming communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
“The road will link farmers to markets, residents to schools and hospitals, and it is expected to open up the area in a way that will significantly impact the local economy,” he said.
Dr. Baba Ahmed noted that Birnin Gwari is one of Nigeria’s major maize-producing local governments, adding that the project would greatly improve the transportation of agricultural produce and boost economic activities in the area.
He explained that the road forms part of Governor Sani’s broader initiative to construct about 1,345 kilometres of roads across 20 local government areas in the state. According to him, the administration has launched 150 projects so far, with 66 already completed.
The Managing Director added that the Bagoma–Gagumi road is being executed by CGC Nigeria Limited, a construction company known for handling major infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges and water supply.
Although the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, he said the contractor has assured the government that it may be delivered ahead of schedule.
The Northern Regional Manager of CGC, Mr. Wang Hongxi, confirmed that the company had mobilised additional workers and equipment to ensure timely completion.
Residents of Bagoma and Gagumi communities also expressed optimism that the road would significantly improve their livelihoods by easing transportation and stimulating economic activities.
A resident, Alhaji Musa Bagoma, said the road had been in a poor condition for years but is now being transformed into a modern highway.
Local trader Alhaji Dangajere Gagumi added that the project would make it easier for farmers and traders to transport their goods to markets, while Mallam Ibrahim Mande commended the state government for prioritising rural development.
