At least five suspected bandits have been neutralised during a security operation carried out by the Joint Task Force in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The development was revealed in a post shared on Monday on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited local sources familiar with the operation.
According to the report, the operation took place in Kan Biri, located on the outskirts of Kwaren Ganuwa District in Tsafe LGA. Troops of the Joint Task Force reportedly launched the raid after receiving intelligence on the presence of armed bandits operating within the area.
During the operation, security personnel engaged the suspected bandits in a gun battle, which resulted in the death of five of the armed men. The encounter is said to have forced other members of the group to flee the scene.
Sources quoted in the report indicated that the operation was part of ongoing security efforts aimed at tackling banditry and restoring stability in communities across the state.
In addition to the casualties recorded among the suspected criminals, troops were said to have recovered several items believed to have been used by the bandits during their operations. Among the items reportedly recovered were firearms and motorcycles.
Motorcycles are commonly used by bandit groups operating in parts of northwestern Nigeria due to their ability to move quickly through rural terrain and forested areas.
Providing details of the incident, Makama wrote that the operation was carried out only a few hours before his report was shared online.
“Hours ago, Joint Task Force (JTF) carried out an operation in Kan Biri outskirts of Kwaren Ganuwa district in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State,” he wrote.
“According to local sources, five bandits were killed, while motorcycles and firearms were recovered during the raid.”
He also commended the efforts of the troops involved in the operation, noting that security personnel continue to risk their lives daily while confronting armed groups threatening communities across the region.
Banditry has remained a major security challenge in Northwest Nigeria, particularly in states such as Zamfara State, where armed groups have been responsible for attacks on villages, kidnappings, and other violent crimes in recent years.
