Family members of an abducted member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), identified as Abba, say they believe he has been killed by his captors despite paying a ransom of N10 million in an attempt to secure his release.
According to relatives, communication with the abductors stopped completely shortly after the ransom was delivered, raising strong fears that the corps member may no longer be alive.
Family sources disclosed that the kidnappers initially demanded the N10 million ransom, which was eventually raised and paid by the family in hopes of securing Abba’s freedom. However, after receiving the payment, the abductors allegedly made additional demands, including motorcycles.
The family said the new requests came after the ransom had already been paid, creating further distress and uncertainty about the fate of the abducted corps member.
“Since receiving the N10 million ransom payment, Abba’s abductors have completely cut off all communication with the family,” a source close to the family said.
The sudden silence from the kidnappers has heightened fears that the abducted NYSC member may have been killed. As a result, the family said it has begun preparations to observe his funeral prayer in absentia in line with Islamic traditions.
According to the family, arrangements have been concluded to conduct the Janaza prayer (Gha’ib) on Friday, March 6, in accordance with Islamic rites.
The family also expressed appreciation to individuals and groups who supported them throughout the difficult period, including those who offered prayers, donations and words of encouragement during the ordeal.
“Abba’s family wishes to express profound gratitude to everyone who offered support, prayers, donations and kind words during this difficult period,” the statement said.
“May the Almighty reward your generosity abundantly.”
Despite their fears, family members said they remain hopeful that Abba could still be alive. They added that they continue to pray for his safe return.
“If he is still alive, we pray that he regains his freedom soon,” a family member said.
They added that if he has indeed passed away, they pray that Allah forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds and grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
