The United States is not considering deploying ground troops in the ongoing conflict with Iran, according to U.S. President Donald Trump.
Trump made the remark during a telephone interview with NBC News on Thursday, describing the idea of sending ground forces into Iran as unnecessary and unproductive.
According to the U.S. president, such a move would be “a waste of time,” insisting that Iran has already suffered significant losses in the conflict.
“It’s a waste of time. They’ve lost everything. They’ve lost their navy. They’ve lost everything they can lose,” Trump said during the interview.
Trump also dismissed earlier comments made by Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, who had warned that Iran was prepared for a potential ground invasion by the United States or Israel.
Reacting to the warning, Trump described Araghchi’s remarks as unnecessary and meaningless, maintaining that the situation on the ground did not warrant such statements.
The Republican leader further indicated that he would prefer to see a change in Iran’s leadership structure, suggesting that the United States aims to move swiftly to neutralise threats from the country.
He added that Washington wants to “go in and clean out everything quickly,” though he did not provide specific details on what such actions would involve.
The ongoing hostilities reportedly began last Saturday when the United States, alongside its key ally Israel, launched coordinated strikes on targets within Iran.
The attacks were said to have resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, significantly escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The situation has since heightened global concerns about a wider regional conflict, as both sides continue to exchange threats and military actions.
