A female operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has died after being struck by an operational patrol vehicle during a simulation exercise in Abuja.
The incident was confirmed on Saturday by the Corps’ spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, who described the development as a tragic mishap that occurred during a coordinated show-of-force drill.
Video clips circulating on social media captured the moment the officer was hit as the patrol vehicle made a turn during the exercise. The vehicle reportedly stopped immediately, while colleagues and bystanders rushed to the scene to rescue her from beneath it.
She was subsequently evacuated by emergency responders but was pronounced dead despite efforts to save her.
Reacting to the incident, Babawale stated that the Corps had activated its internal procedures in response to the fatal accident.
“It is true that we lost a personnel during the simulation exercise. Our senior officers are already on their way to the residence of the deceased to commiserate with the family,” he said.
He added that the NSCDC would release a comprehensive statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the accident and outlining the steps being taken by the agency.
As of Saturday, the identity of the deceased officer had not been officially disclosed.
The incident has raised concerns about operational safety protocols during paramilitary drills and simulation exercises, particularly those conducted in urban environments.
