Five former cabinet members of the Kano State Government have filed a suit at the National Industrial Court challenging the alleged forceful recovery of their official vehicles by state authorities.
Among the plaintiffs is Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Commissioner for Youth and Sports and son of the leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The others include Nasiru Sule Garo (Special Duties), AVM Ibrahim Umar (Internal Security), Adamu Aliyu Kibiya (Humanitarian Affairs), and Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata (Science and Technology). The former commissioners resigned en masse following the defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Court documents indicate that AVM Umar, who served as Commissioner for Internal Security before resigning in January, filed suit NICN/KN/14/2026 against the Attorney General of Kano State and two others.
According to filings obtained by Daily Trust, Umar’s legal team alleged that operatives of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) forcibly entered his residence on February 26, allegedly disturbing his family and seizing his official vehicle.
The claimant is seeking an order for the immediate return of the vehicle, as well as disclosure of the identities of officers involved in the operation.
In a separate press statement signed by Umar on behalf of the affected former commissioners, the group accused the state government of adopting what they described as a “vindictive attitude” toward them following their resignations.
They alleged intimidation and harassment, maintaining that due process was not followed in the recovery of the vehicles.
The development marks the latest fallout from the political realignment in Kano State, as tensions persist between the former appointees and the current administration. The case is expected to test the legality of the state’s actions regarding the retrieval of government property from former officials.
