The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC has sealed 18 warehouses in Niger State following the discovery of expired and improperly stored products. The agency said the enforcement action was part of an ongoing nationwide crackdown on substandard and falsified goods.
According to NAFDAC officials, the operation uncovered large quantities of expired food items, pharmaceuticals, and consumer products. Inspectors also reported inadequate storage conditions that compromised product safety and quality. The agency stated that the affected warehouses violated regulatory standards and posed risks to public health.
NAFDAC emphasised that protecting consumers remains its primary mandate. The agency warned distributors and retailers against engaging in practices that endanger lives, adding that prosecutions may follow pending further investigation.
Public health advocates commended the action, noting that expired medical and food products can lead to serious health consequences. They called for stronger collaboration between regulatory agencies, customs authorities, and market associations to prevent circulation of unsafe goods.
The agency reiterated its commitment to routine inspections and intelligence led enforcement to dismantle distribution networks dealing in compromised products. It also urged members of the public to report suspicious goods through official channels.
Stakeholders say sustained enforcement, public awareness campaigns, and stricter penalties will be essential to deter future violations and safeguard consumer confidence in regulated markets.
