Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, has condemned alleged plans by terrorists to attack communities in Kwara State, warning that the threats have heightened fear among residents.
In a statement, Adams said intelligence reports and a threatening letter reportedly dropped at a market in Ira community indicated possible attacks in Oyun Local Government Area, including the towns of Ira, Inaja, and Aho. He noted that the development has raised serious concerns about the safety of residents and the potential for violence in the affected communities.
Adams called on the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Kwara State Government, and relevant security agencies to take immediate and proactive steps to prevent the attacks. He urged authorities to strengthen security measures, enhance intelligence sharing, and deploy adequate resources to safeguard lives and property.
According to him, recent intelligence points to coordinated efforts by terrorist groups aimed at spreading fear and destabilising parts of the Southwest. He described the alleged plans as a grave threat to public safety and urged swift action to avert any incident.
Adams also appealed to residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious movements, and work closely with security agencies to protect their communities. He stressed that the safety of Yorubaland and Yoruba speaking communities in Kwara and Kogi States remains paramount, calling for unity and collective efforts to preserve peace and ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.
