Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has acknowledged that he would not have attained the governorship without the support of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing the former governor as the political figure who discovered him and gave him the opportunity to contest for office.
Fubara made the remark on Friday while receiving the New Telegraph Man of the Year Award. Despite the lingering political rift between both leaders, the governor dedicated the honour to Wike, openly recognising his role in his political journey and emergence as governor.
According to Fubara, Wike’s backing brought him into the political limelight and played a decisive role in shaping his rise to the highest office in Rivers State. He noted that the former governor’s support provided the platform and exposure that enabled him to secure the mandate of the people, stressing that such contributions could not be ignored.
The governor’s remarks have drawn public attention, coming amid ongoing political tensions between the two allies-turned-rivals, and are seen by observers as a rare moment of acknowledgment across party divisions within the state’s political landscape.
